Debunking the Kundalini Serpent Myth

As we learn in this course, kundalini is not traditionally related to snakes or serpentine energy.

The snake is a great metaphor for how spiritual energy is created and moves. Thus helping us to explain Kundalini.

But then it’s often taken a few steps too far and misinterpreted. And now we find that there is an energy or entity called the Kundalini Serpent. Some people desire this energy, some people fear it. But what is important to remember is how it shows up.

For each of us it can be very different as our beliefs dictate our relationship to such energies.

In Kundalini Bodywork and in all that I teach, we are not working with serpentine energy or lineages, although at times these might show up as all energies might show up as aspects of consciousness.

Lineages connected to Shaktipat work in a way that you surrender to a guru, an entity or an energy, and it moves your life force.

It takes some energy from you as it needs energy to live, to be there for you.

But in the process, it heals you and opens you up in a way that you are able to generate more life force.

And the more people that surrender to the entity, the guru, the lineage or the aspect of consciousness, the stronger it becomes.

And as long as the people holding the lineage are working with pure intentions, then this is mostly a beneficial practice. But sometimes the energies and entities are not of pure intention.

Thus, negative forms of black and dark magic exist, or the people involved are not developed enough to hold such spaces.

So participants or disciples experiences become diluted and they are robbed of their spirituality in more than one way.

When energies and entities that people are working with take more than they give, people are likely to have more negative life experiences and lose energy.

We have to move from direct understandings of good and bad in this work.

So it can be very hard to judge what is best for us long term.

And in the end, we must learn to trust ourselves and our karma.

But for most of us, things should feel pleasurable immediately afterwards and also long term. As Kundalini bodywork is a holistic practice and the middle path.

We see that our personal imprint of kundalini, the spiritual knowledge, aspects of truth that we are able to share with another, is in one sense the same as a lineage, but it is our personal imprint.

And in this sense, we are at the top of our own hierarchy, but still able to work with other people of their lineages to learn from other people’s energies and imprints.

Kundalini basically means coiled, a coiled store of spiritual energy at the base of the spine.

As we go through life, we create more energy than we need. So some of this is stored at the base of our spine, meaning it vibrates differently to energy coming from our heart, our third eye or our sex.

The energy at the base of our spine is called our kundalini: our coiled store of spiritual energy.

One way to think of this is our fuel for enlightenment. This is why some people have spontaneous awakenings with no spiritual practice or desire.

This energy in the base of the spine is activated and then polarised through the chakra system before uniting in the third eye, eventually looking up and moving out of our crown.

So our consciousness experiences life from a higher plane. It is still a level of separation. But many people’s accounts are of experiencing life as non dual because snakes coil up and because when Kundalini activates, the body moves like a snake with two opposing polarized forces weaving up through the chakra system.

Kundalini is thus often translated into being about snakes and thus hijacked or confused by entities related to snakes and serpentine energy.

What we need to be careful of is activating someone’s kundalini when they have little spiritual practice or knowledge, as then we are simply wasting their life force if not sending them into a psychosis.

The processes in Kundalini Bodywork focus on activating the body through internal, energetic and emotional transference to prepare the body for when our kundalini is ready to rise so that we can move beyond bodily reactions and trauma induced responses to rise our consciousness out of our crown while remaining very grounded in our body.

So we ground into our body heightened states of awareness and experiences of bliss, divinity and the non-dual.

In level two, we look more at Shaktipat and how to work with energy in activating ways.

But the reality is that with the level one work of using energy and prana to clear the path of kundalini, the states we can access are very high and for some people their kundalini naturally activates.

But we can experience so much bliss and joy in the body without activating it, just clearing the channels and working with the existing chi, prana and emotions in our body.

The topic of shaktipat and how energy is changing is also related to the old light and new light on our planet and will be discussed later in the course.
